Bordered by the mountains of Salève and Le Vuache to the south-east and hemmed in by the Swiss border to the north, this part of the French area near Geneva known as the "Genevois" includes 17 towns and villages, some of them on the Camino (the road to Santiago de Compostela). The history of this area is closely linked to that of Geneva and Savoie.
Drive or walk through the area's towns and villages in search of small castles, fortified houses, chapels, churches, wash-houses etc., all restored to reflect their history. It's a wonderful way of relaxing. Try it and see !
Â
And as you go from hamlet to village, don't forget to stop and chat with local farmers, producers and vignerons. What could be better than a blend of heritage and "terroir" ? It's an appeal to the tastebuds and a hint of history.
